How to Fix Windows Registry Error by Yourself

February 4th, 2011 Jesse No comments

Are you having a problem with windows registry errors? This article is intended to give you a step by step instruction to fix windows registry error by yourself. To be specific, I will go over how to check for errors in the registry entries, instruction to perform a registry back up, and how to fix some of the errors you might find.

Method (A): Manually look for registry errors

1. Looking for errors – empty registry entries

There is a built-in basic registry viewer within any version of windows from Microsoft. It is simply well known as “Regedit”. The easiest way to access this regedit is:

Start -> Run -> Type “Regedit” and hit Enter

You should now see new regedit window opened on your screen. Registry entries are very sensitive. You should be extremely careful and sure that you are deleting the right entries or it will cause problems to your machine.

2. Perform a backup for your registry

There is a little handy tool comes with any version of Windows. It is called the “windows system restore”. The way it works is that it will rollback your windows back to any saved date and time you are choosing. It is recommended to manually place a system restore point right before you edit any registry entries. To do this you may simply:

Start -> Help/Support -> Click on “Create new restore point” button.

3. Repair, correct, and delete parts of your Windows Registry

You would need to reboot your computer after you have made all the corrections to see the effects. It will be the first big test to see if everything is good with your computer. It is not uncommon to see some new text display when you boot up for the first time as windows goes through the registry. You should read it and see if it can be determined that something was deleted that should not have been.

If you run into any major problems, you should utilize your system restore backup to bring your computer back to where it was prior to making the changes in your registry.

Method (B): Use registry cleaners to do the task automatically

If you are not familiar with how to edit your registry, you should considering using third party software to manage this task for you.

There are many good 3rd party windows registry cleaners available on the internet. I’ve tried some and prove that only perform this registry cleaning process, I get rid of all my windows registry errors. The best thing is some of them offer free online scan! Windows XP Registry Cleaner – Fix Windows XP Registry Errors

February 3rd, 2011 Jesse No comments

If you are having problems with your computer the majority of them can be traced back to the Windows registry. The problems that errors in the registry create can cause even bigger problems for Windows XP, or the version of Windows you are using and you need to fix windows xp registry errors.

The registry stores all your windows settings and even though you cannot see the errors in the registry the problems you are seeing in windows are telling you they are there.

If your computer has the following symptoms these are a good indication of registry errors.

#1 Computer freezes or pauses then resumes working.

#2 Windows Reports registry errors.

#3 Windows reports page file or virtual memory errors or other messages.

One of the main reasons for this is adware and spyware silently installing on your computer and disrupting everything you are doing.

You can try fixing the errors manually by editing the registry yourself. To do this you need to open the registry editor and then go to.

- Hkey_Local_Machine and then open the software folder. Once in there go to the folder labelled Microsoft and find the sub folders labelled run and run once.

This is where spyware and adware will hide and if there is anything you do not recognise in there remove it.

Editing the registry manually carries a risk if you do not know what you are doing and unlike with windows there is no recycle bin or any way to get deleted entries back and if you delete the wrong registry keys or entries you can find your computer is left in an unworkable state.

There is another solution though.

Besides these entries for adware and spyware, errors occur in the registry over time. These errors can cause all sorts of errors with windows and they can be difficult to uncover, some entries may be corrupt and others may not even be needed. Trying to locate them manually can take hours and if you delete the wrong ones it can spell disaster for your PC.

The solution is to run a free registry scan. This will tell you right away if there are any errors in your windows registry and you can run this from within windows without having to edit the registry yourself.

Usually the first time you run this you will find hundreds of errors and you can fix windows xp registry errors in minutes and speed up your PC again.

Fix Windows Registry Errors

February 2nd, 2011 Jesse No comments

The most important reason your should fix Windows Registry errors as they occur is that this the one single preventative measure can greatly increase the life-expectancy of your Windows system by stabilizing the growth of its Registry.

Prevention is Key!

It is a fact of Windows that trying to fix Registry problems after they occur is much more difficult than preventing their occurrence in the first place. So when it comes to the Windows Registry, the motto should always be “prevention is key!” This is because it is often the most common and abundant types of errors that wind up killing Registries, especially those caused by a system’s registered applications, users, and even Windows itself. As new applications are installed and old applications are removed, and as registered applications continue accessing and changing Registry data, they often leave small bits of themselves behind as orphaned registry entries.

By themselves, these errors will probably not reveal themselves in any degradation of speed or normal Windows functions, especially if your system is new. But if these errors are allowed to accumulate for a very long time, they can greatly increase a Registry’s size and wreak havoc on the overall structure and stability of its database. And for a fast-growing Registry, even small error accumulations can quickly send your Registry’s database structure out of control. If you don’t fix these Windows Registry errors often, your system can very easily fall victim to sudden crashes, system stalls, or a severe decrease in operating speed. It is particularly at risk if you frequently install or uninstall applications and hardware, since these actions increase the Registry’s rate of growth further by adding more registered components, orphaned Registry entries, and undeleted drivers to your system.

Registry Repair Utilities

Once you have made the decision to fix Windows Registry errors on your system, you will need to know something about how to go about it. Although some versions of Windows provide built-in background system utilities designed to maintain Registry structure and stability, these utilities only address the most basic Registry problems in the most primitive ways, making them insufficient when a Registry becomes very large and complicated. However, there are many third-party Windows Registry repair utilities available on the Internet that are inexpensive and easy to use. For general maintenance and prevention purposes, Combination Repair/Cleaning utilities are perfect. They are effective in finding and removing errors caused by invalid references, viruses, and spyware/tracking programs, and usually have other features, like Registry defragmenting and backup/restore utilities and scanning schedules, that make it very easy to maintain your computer’s health and optimize its performance.
